YSL Gloss - Worth the Splurge?

I have maintained a pretty strict rule about not shelling out lots of cash on lipgloss or lipstick. Foundation, eye shadow - no problem. I'm happy to pay more money for them because I believe I really do get what I pay for: better color pay-off, longer lasting formulas, and lots of use. But lipgloss and lipstick are so easy to use, then lose. Or what's a favorite color one day isn't the next week. However, I've been noticing women (in random places) who have really great, gorgeously glossy lips. Like:

Dina, from the Real Housewives of New Jersey. (I told you, random). Last night, QVC offered a special 3-tube collection of YSL Golden Glosses and I had an epiphany. After watching the sort of pedestrian host of the program completely change herself into a glamour-puss (ok, sort of) with one swipe of the gloss I realized that this product might be the answer to the lips I've been looking for!

But - this gloss is $30 a pop. $30. That is about $21 more than I usually pay. So, I'm taking it to you Bombshells - is it worth it? Who's used YSL gloss and can provide me with a complete overview?

  1. I have never used YSL lip gloss, but would love to hear from others. Aren't we always on the hunt for the perfect lip gloss!

  2. I currently own 3 tubes of YLS lip gloss. Sadly, they sit in my makeup case untouched. I LOVE YLS touche eclat so naturally I assumed I'd love their gloss too. Wrong.

I'm not saying that you won't love it. And perhaps it makes my lips look slightly more glam (though I really didn't notice which means probably not.) It tastes funny and feels weird on my lips.

I use Dior lip gloss which is comparable in price, and I prefer it. But my favorite glosses are made by Bare Essentials, MAC and Dior.

The nice thing about YLS is that it's available at Sephora which means if you try it and don't like it, you can totally return it.

If you love it, let me know...I value your opinion so much..you know this.

  3. I say don't do it, but you know me, I'm pretty thrifty (to put it nicely). :) I think that a lip gloss just enhances what you already have and I don't think spending more on a brand like YSL will make a difference over a $9 brand. I agree that some products that cost more are of a higher quality, but I don't think lip glosses are in that category.

I'm not sure what the QVC lady's lips looked like pre-gloss, but if they're anything like Dina's from the Real Housewives of New Jersey, I'm guessing her lips would look amazing with only Chapstick.

If you decide to splurge on the YSL glosses, I'd love to see a video review. Are you going to wait to purchase them until your self-imposed shopping sabbatical is over? ;)

  4. Oh my gosh, I'm so torn! Kimmers always keeps me down to earth- of course no lip gloss is going to be the "be all end all" and yet...But then, hearing that Kenz owns them and doesn't love them makes me think I probably won't either. Argh - dilemna. Either way - I promise not to give to make any purchases until after my shopping ban. Maybe by then I'll have a more solid point of view. Thanks for the input, girls!

  5. sorry to piggyback here, and really don't want this published per se, but I don't know how to contact you...anyway, I was wondering if you could do a post on "your lips but better" or "my lips but better" lipsticks....I have been looking for a nice neutral for the longest time and have no luck...a brown or browny-pink lippie is hard to find..MAC's Hug Me is really really nice, but I was looking for an alternative...wondering if you or your readers have any suggestions
