When I'm standing up straight, it looks fine. But the second I sit down and slouch just a little (as I'm prone to do) - BAM! Suddenly the top is less work appropriate than someone who is actually sitting at her desk - at work- would hope for. I realized this when I noticed a male co-worker intently maintaining eye contact during a casual conversation. Whoops!
Thank goodness I'd paired the top with three conservative pieces: black cashmere cardigan, high waisted skirt and kitten heels. Toss in two of my favorite pieces of jewelry and you can see why I felt so great walking out the door. Oh well. I'm always complaining of having a wardrobe comprised only of work clothes. Now I officially have an item that is definitely play-clothes only!
The clothes:
Black cashmere cardigan- Gap
Bodacious, inappropriate for work but cute on the weekend tank - Lane Bryant
Black high-waisted skirt - Lane Bryant Icon collection
Kitten heels- Payless
Pinecone necklace- Grandma Ruth's, made by Grandpa H.T.
Emerald & diamond ring - Mom's
I like the colors of that top, and it will look great as a casual piece. I've had that issue happen with shirts too.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great top! I sometimes have great ideas about pieces in my closet and discover how my perception was wrong once its in the light of day. Its a super cute outfit though! Its a shame you don't have a work appropriate version of that top! :)
ReplyDeleteWill it layer well with a cami?
ReplyDeleteI've got otherwise work appropriate tops that gape, so put a simple cami under it to fill the inch or so that needs to remain safely covered at work.
Noticed a co-worker using the technique w her outfit today.
I'll have to give it a go with a cami underneath, see if that helps it become more work appropriate. :) Thanks you guys!
ReplyDeleteYep, I was just stopping by to suggest a cami. I have a couple of tank tops that do that too, and camis do the trick!
